Mission Statement Transparency With Integrity & Unity

Mission Statement 2013

Our mission can be summed up in one word, transparency.

We want transparency in school hiring practices. We want to see employers in the ESL industry held to the same labor standards as other major international industries. We will not be pressured to surrender or temper our ideas until the current labor abuses such as but not limited to contract violations and lack of proper mediation, management abuses of employee paid time, lack of overtime, lack of expenses paid for services (I.E. Flights, documentation, visa costs, document acquisition expenses), housing abuses that border on slumlord, recruiter exploitation of ESL teachers for profit without legal responsibility after the fact, etc cease to exist. We strive for legal, moral and ethical boundaries to be in place on an international level that protect ESL teachers from any continued and/or future flagrant labor abuses.

We want transparency in overall academic practices regardless of employer or employee. We want transparency in teacher development and clear oversight as to which ESL teacher development program is internationally and academically superior for the ESL student, for the ESL teacher as well as for the ESL representing organization. We want clear ESL development guidelines that ESL courses must adhere to uniformally in order to satisfy accepted ESL certification on an international basis. We want to see ESL courses registered by an international accrediting body and therefore liable for any and all issues that arise with ESL teachers who received ESL certification as a result of substandard course delivery or under false pretense of authenticity and/or international recognition (Namely the multitude of online/ in-class organizations who aggressively market and profit from the use of ESL acryomyns such as TESOL, CELTA, TEFL, DELTA, EFL, TKT, TESL, Etc.)

We want transparency in the relationship between employer and employee. Foremost, we want transparency in the relationship between the ESL school and the ESL student in which our role as ESL teachers plays such an integral part.

We will always provide transparency to our members while maintaining the highest levels of honesty and integrity for, without our members, change in the ESL industry could never occur. Our members are the ESL industry and as a united whole we will take the lead role and responsibilty in the ESL industry in the same fashion and fervor that our members lead their students. Yet, and at the same time, united we will protect our members from unsanctioned servitude as a result of flagrant dishonesty that has become an uderlying cancer in our industry and, of which, undermines the purpose of being an ESL teacher while also severely undermining the academic growth of our students.

We are united in our ideals for transparency in the hiring of ESL teachers and protection of those ESL teachers international employment rights as well as their labor rights as laid out in local and national labor laws by their host countries. We want to see countries held responsible for violating their own labor laws when dealing with foreign and local employees when the violating country holds a seat in the United Nations and is bound by signature to abide by all agreements made in and while holding a seat in the United Nations.

Our bond, as ESL teachers, is unbreakable when protecting each other in the ESL industry and we will, at all times, honor our motto of "Teachers Take Care of Teachers".

We are united in our moral and ethical responsibilities when having accepted and/or are accepting ESL teaching as our profession regardless of whether the choice of becoming an ESL teacher was initially a temporary plan or has progressed itself into a permanent career. We will not sway, veer nor disassemble in the face of adversity or adversaries, under any vindictive pretense of shallow threats and prevocated scare tactics nor will we fold in fear when employers use our passports, our non-citizen status or our nievity of culture against us as tools of power and degradation. When the choice of providing academic excellence is manipulated by those in the ESL industry who undermine academics for maximizing profit, we are and always will be the united frontline of defense for the ESL students we nurture and develop.

We pride ourselves in providing excellence in the classroom, leadership in our communities and futures for our fellow man. Our promise to ourselves is excellence at all costs and our promise to our users is excellence regardless of cost.
